Before leaving you to your decision-making on Isla Mujeres resorts, I would like to spend some time answering the most common questions and hopefully clear any doubts about Isla Mujeres.

Is it worth staying in Isla Mujeres?

It depends on what you are looking for on a vacation in Mexico. It’s definitely worth visiting, and you may want to stay a few days if you love the tranquillity of the island vibes, watch amazing sunsets and sunrises, enjoy some of the best snorkeling in Mexico, swim in pristine turquoise waters, and enjoy all the other amazing things to do in Isla Mujeres.

Is Isla Mujeres open for tourists?

Isla Mujeres is open for tourists just like entire Mexico and you are more than welcome to visit.

Which side of Isla Mujeres is better?

They are both amazing, the north-western side has spectacular white sand beaches and the best spot to bask in the sun and have some delicious meals in one of the beachfront restaurants or enjoy incredible sunsets.

The ocean side has fascinating landscapes to admire and great sunrises, while the southern point has a beautiful park to visit and a great spot for pictures.

What is special about Isla Mujeres? And what is Isla Mujeres known for?

It’s history, first of all, it’s kind of interesting. Its name was given by the Spanish conquerors when they saw women-shaped figurines on the beach when they arrived on the island.

It seems that the island was a sanctuary where the Mayans used to go and leave their offerings to the fertility god Ixcel.

In fact on the south point, you can still admire her statue honoring the past.

But that is not it, Isla Mujeres is also special for its spectacular sunset and for being in the whale sharks’ route during their migration.

In fact, swimming with whale sharks is one of the most recommended tours from Cancun that including a stop by the spectacular beach in Isla Mujeres.

Are there cars on Isla Mujeres?

Yes, there are cars, and you can also bring yours although it’s not really worth it, nor recommended. If you want though, you must leave from the Punta Sam Ferry terminal. In this post on how to get to Isla Mujeres, I tell you all about it.

But to move around in Isla Mujeres the best way is to rent a golf cart! So much fun and eco-friendly.

How long is the ferry ride from Cancun to Isla Mujeres?

The ferry ride is only 20 minutes and you can catch the ferry from different marinas in Cancun.

What is better Isla Mujeres or Tulum?

That’s a very difficult question because those are two completely different destinations although they are both on some of the best beaches in Mexico and they offer an incredible “sand&sea” vacation.

Let’s say in a few words that Isla Mujeres has a more laid-back tranquil vibe, is smaller and less chaotic than Tulum, but, at the same time has much fewer options in terms of food and entertainment, hotel offers, and things to see around it.

If you had to choose I would spend a couple of nights in Isla Mujeres and the rest in Tulum.

Is Isla Mujeres safe?

Yes, Isla Mujeres is one of the safest places to stay in Mexico, but as I always say you should still be aware of your surroundings and use some common sense. The fact that you feel you are in paradise, doesn’t make it real paradise and we are still on this earth with all its usual dangers and issues.
