The 13 Best Cheap Hotels in Tulum

Where to Stay On a Budget in the Most Exclusive Mexican Destination

If you are wondering whether it is possible to travel to Tulum on a budget, the answer is yes and this list of the best cheap hotels in Tulum will help you find cute affordable places in Tulum to enjoy one of the trendiest destinations in Mexico.

Tulum is a town filled with luxurious hotels and resorts along the endless white sand beach, but they’re just as expensive as they’re luxurious.

So the question comes obvious — Is it possible to visit Tulum without breaking the bank? I am happy to say that it is indeed.

With a little patience, you can also find excellent budget lodgings to explore all the charms and attractions here. I have searched and selected the cutest cheap hotels in Tulum to help you narrow down your search.

Although we all have a different idea of “affordable”, I have selected the nicest among hotels in Tulum that are below 100 USD a night.

Needless to say that usually if you can stretch your budget a little bit you could also find something affordable on the beach, but if you don’t mind the location, in downtown Tulum you may get a very pretty and luxurious place at a very good price.

In this case, I would recommend you rent a car, so that you will be free to move around and get to the beach or the restaurants and do all the incredible things to do in and around Tulum, including the spectacular cenotes near Tulum, or relaxing in one of the fancy Tulum beach clubs.

Despite being pocket-friendly, these accommodations can be great in terms of facilities and services.

They’re also close to many Tulum attractions and bus stations in case you decide not to rent a car, so you have easy access to bus stops and transport services to visit Tulum cenotes and Mayan ruins, lots of things to do in Tulum are also close enough, and having a blast in the famous Riviera Maya town is hassle-free!

So let’s dig into the list of the best cheap hotels in Tulum.

Ujo Condo Boutique may be affordable, but it is by no means ordinary. The hotel is one of the best when it comes to budget accommodations in Tulum.

It offers not only private rooms, but apartments as well. The apartments it consists of are very spacious, and that’s one of the things I like about Ujo Condo.

Then there’s the excellent design of the guest rooms. All the rooms are very modern and furnished with natural materials, and the decor is heart-warming too. In terms of facilities, service, and value, Ujo Condo is one of the best cheap hotels in Tulum.

Laundry service, bike rentals, and lots of amenities in the apartments are another perk you get to enjoy despite having an affordable place to stay in Tulum.

Although they may lack charm, the rooms of Hotel Central Station are neat, spacious, comfortable, and homelike. Some of them feature king beds on top of the common amenities to make for excellent couple rooms, and some come with a couple of large double beds to accommodate families.

Wifi, cable TV, air-conditioning, safe deposit boxes, 24-hour reception service, and refreshing coffee with delicious cookies are all part of the lodging experience here.

4. Las Mariposas Boutique and Bed and Breakfast

Las Mariposas Boutique hotel front

Las Mariposas is a pretty hotel downtown. It’s one of the best boutique hotels in Tulum because it looks and feels like luxury hotels—the kind that gets you all the Instagram-worthy photos you would like.

But it’s not only beautiful, it’s also one of the best in all the other aspects of a budget Tulum hotel.

The guest rooms in Mariposas Boutique are spotlessly clean, there is a sun terrace and outdoor picnic area, and the hotel even has an on-site restaurant with a veranda to take care of your hunger for both delicious cuisines and aesthetic settings.

The standard suites include a dining area, kitchen, appliances like tea/coffee makers, daily room service, and lovely queen beds.

The balcony suites include all of those features as well as a sofa bed and views of the neighborhood. Just like my other selection of hotels, the rooms here have air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, and wireless internet access.

And despite all its amazing features, Las Mariposas Boutique still falls in the affordable category of accommodations in Tulum.

The area it’s located in is quiet and peaceful, but the town’s attractions aren’t far from it.

I recommend getting a bike rental if you want to make the most of your stay here, combining both the peaceful recess of your rooms and the vibrant life of downtown Tulum.

Packing a lot of facilities and perks in a single-budget lodging, Trece Lunas is a holiday apartment in Tulum that’s famous for the royal treatment its guests get. The property is quiet and relaxing, and all its rooms are really nice as well with simple but charming decor.

8. Casa Santiago

Casa Santiago is one of the small boutique hotels in town just a little distance from the Tulum Pueblo, with lots of palm trees and nature in and around it. Since the hotel accommodates only a specific number of guests at a time, the attention to detail is great here.

Given the facilities and care you get in Casa Santiago, I can tell you that this hotel is easily one of the best cheap hotels in Tulum. Each one of the six rooms in the hotel has air-conditioning, televisions, and a terrace or patio. There is free parking for the guests and WIFI is available throughout Casa Santiago.

The comfort of Casa Santiago Hotel is remarkable, but you will be so absorbed in admiring and connecting with the nature around it to notice that.

The front desk staff helps you with making plans, finding things to do in Tulum, and even arranging tours for you if you don’t know much about the town. The services of the hotel are also pretty good, with friendly staff and lovely furnishings.

Apart from the sun terrace and garden, Casa Santiago also has an outdoor pool which is pretty as a picture. Guests have easy access to an adorable park nearby, where you can go for a relaxing evening stroll to simply admire nature or you can take the yoga classes and meditate as well.

If you’re looking for one of the more unique stays in Tulum, while also having the resort accommodation vibes of the expensive lodgings in town, Maka Hotel Boutique is a good choice for it.

This hostel-like place is eye-catching from the outside as well as inside, and the vibrant bohemian theme of the hotel really makes your stay a unique experience.

The interiors of the hotel are filled with art and colors, and all the guest rooms are comfortable on top of being stunning.

MakA Hotel Boutique has garden view rooms, a mezzanine room with a private terrace, and dorms and rooms for large groups as well. Mind that this hotel doesn’t have double rooms only dorm and quadruple.

Breakfast is included, there’s free wifi in all the rooms and throughout the hotel, and around-the-clock front desk and concierge service are also part of the stay.

10. Kuukum Tulum Hotel

Kuum kum Hotel Garden and Patio
Kuum Kum Hotel Garden and patio

Hotel Kuukum Tulum is a very upscale and elegant property just on the edge of all things cheap in Tulum. The quiet solitude of the area it’s situated in is combined with the tropical greenery of the lush jungle surrounding it, and the terrace views are doubly amazing because of that.

There are many types of rooms in the hotel, all of them meticulously designed and kept spotlessly clean by the staff.

Since Kuukum is a 4-star hotel, it’s no surprise that the rooms in it are all air-conditioned, have flat-screen TVs, wifi, and other such amenities.

Hotel Kuukum is a large property, so that means all of the rooms are extremely spacious and comfortable. All the spaces of the property are touched with both boho chic elegance and traditional Mexican decor.

There is a garden, outdoor pool, sun terrace, and lots of services in the wellness center as well. Walking and bike tours, live music, themed dinner nights, and other recreational activities can also be arranged every now and then.

Overall, Kuukum Tulum Hotel is a fantastic place to stay in Tulum. The only thing I would mention here is that it’s a little distance from the bus stop, so that might be a problem if you don’t have a car.

Though the hotel has bike and scooter rentals, and its own airport picks and drop service and shuttle service as well (extra cost), it’s not that much of a problem.

In fact, it’s one of the best lodgings in Tulum when it comes to a great price, so you get to enjoy a comfortable stay filled with privacy and luxury. The rooms are designed with minimalism in mind, and their furnishings are surprisingly well-selected.

The nearby places are beautiful as well, and worth taking a stroll in. The nearest airport to the property is Cozumel International, but Lagoon Boutique has a shuttle service for both Cozumel International and Cancun International. The staff is also great here.

Moreover, guests simply love the quietude and sereneness of the lodgings—just like you will, I’m sure.

Taan is among the boutique hotels on my list that receive most of their return guests because of the incredible hospitality and friendliness of their staff.

And rightly so, everyone here is so nice and accommodating! Hotel Taan is located just a few blocks from the bus station that takes you to so many cenotes, beaches, and lots of other Tulum attractions.
