I have been to San Miguel de Allende quite a few times now and besides walking in awe around the historical center through its cobblestone roads and colonial architecture, every single time, I also took the time to visit its incredible boutique hotels.
Therefore in this post, I will share my favorite boutique hotels in San Miguel de Allende for mid-range and luxury stays.
The first things that come to your mind when you think about San Miguel de Allende are the gorgeous colonial architecture and stylish homes and hotels.
Proclaimed World Heritage Site by UNESCO and nominated the best city in Latin America and in the world, San Miguel de Allende, definitely won’t disappoint you.
As soon as I got the chance, I moved here and explored every corner, enjoy the cute little cafes, get inspiration from the hundreds of art galleries and try every restaurant.
Walking around the historical center is like going back in time as you look at the spectacular old facades, ancient buildings, and churches and stepping on cobblestones roads.
Not to mention the relaxing hot springs near San Miguel de Allende! Make sure you visit one of them if you are in town for a few days
The city is also brimming with top-notch restaurants, from fine dining to healthy cozy places but I will tell you all about them in another post.
I have been visiting many of them and I am here to tell you everything about what I liked so that you can choose what suits you best.
Top Luxury Boutique hotels in San Miguel de Allende
Here you will find my selection of the best luxury hotels in town, for their exceptional service, finest decoration, and charm.
My choice was also price-based, as these hotels have a rate starting from 250 USD per room per night up.
Please bear in mind that every hotel in San Miguel de Allende increases their rate of about 15-20% during weekends.
1. Belmond Casa de Sierra Nevada

Staying at Belmond Casa de Sierra Nevada is like stepping into an aristocratic old world. The hotel is actually distributed among 5 spectacular colonial buildings in the historical center, 4 around the main plaza and one by Benito Juarez street.
When I went for a visit, I was warmly welcomed by a kind receptionist who went out of his way to show me the only room they had available close to the reception area.
He brought me there, opened the massive door of the opulent building, and let me in. At the end of the entrance porch, two spacious and elegant rooms are situated around the beautiful garden and a short pathway leads you to the second and bigger garden where guests can enjoy a pool and sun loungers.
Other rooms on the ground floor and second level are located at the back of the building.
The rooms are actually suites, elegantly decorated with classic art pieces, and equipped with the finest amenities and high quality-linen. Every minimal detail is cared for.
I also had the chance to take a peek into the opposite building where the main restaurant is located. Tables and comfortable sofas are nicely distributed in the courtyard while an internal space is also available, and other rooms at the back.
This is one of the places I would look into if you love elegance and a great location since you will be right in the heart of San Miguel de Allende.

2. Casa No Name

A precious hidden gem, Casa No Name is a place that you should indeed visit even if you don’t feel like splurging. In my opinion one of the most beautiful luxury boutique hotels in San Miguel de Allende.
Located in an old mansion, you can still see the remaining of the old building, such as the frescos on the walls of the first courtyard, where breakfast is served.
Plants, arches and columns, vintage doors and a rooftop terrace, privacy, and finest art pieces are only a small hint of what makes this place so extraordinarily beautiful.
I find it so romantic and intimate, which makes it ideal for a couple’s escape. But honestly, I would be very happy here on my own as well.

4. Live Aqua San Miguel de Allende

Located just outside the historical center of San Miguel de Allende but still at only 5 minutes drive (UBER is available in the area) Live Aqua San Miguel de Allende is very different from the usual hotels of the same brand.

How to get to San Miguel de Allende
San Miguel de Allende is located only 1-hour bus from Queretaro, and at 1hr 20 minutes from Guanajuato, both amazing cities that you should visit too.
If you want to rent a car and explore the area, keep in mind that there are no car rentals in San Miguel. So you should be better off renting a car in Queretaro.
Getting around San Miguel is easy and within the historical center, everything is within a pleasant walking distance. However, if you want to get out of the city, UBER is also a great option.
Coming from Mexico City Airport to San Miguel de Allende you have now a direct bus with ETN but it leaves from Camino Real Hotel entrance and is not where the bus terminal is.
Discover Cars Mexico Review
Browse through international and local car rentals and find the best deal.
I’ve always had great service from Discover Cars. They always respond quickly if there’s a problem of any kind…I would never use any other car rental company as my many experiences with DiscoverCars.com have been 100% positive.
KATH (TRUST PILOT REVIEW)
Is San Miguel de Allende Safe?
Although the state of Guanajuato is not the safest in Mexico and has recently been a hotspot of some drug-related accidents, San Miguel is considered a safe city, always full of people on the streets. However, I would avoid narrow dark roads at night, and using common sense rules is always wise.
