Amazon Mexico: The Complete Guide for Travelers and Expats (2026)

Yes, there is an Amazon Mexico — and if you’re traveling or living in Mexico, it’s one of the most useful tools you’ll have. Amazon Mexico (amazon.com.mx) operates independently from Amazon US, with its own product catalog, pricing in Mexican pesos, and its own Prime membership.

In this guide, I’ll tell you exactly how it works, what’s different from what you’re used to, and everything you need to know before placing your first order.

⚠️ Important 2026 Updates for Amazon Mexico

  • RFC/CURP now required: Mexico now requires a valid RFC (tax ID) or CURP (personal ID number) for all orders shipped into the country, including from Amazon US. If you don’t have one, some orders may be held at customs or rejected. Expats and long-term visitors should register for an RFC — it’s free and can be done online via the SAT website.
  • Prime Video now includes ads: From June 17, 2025, Amazon Prime Video in Mexico includes advertisements. An ad-free upgrade is available for an additional fee.
  • Free 1-day shipping now available in 80+ cities, including Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Querétaro, and more — not just Mexico City, Guadalajara, and Monterrey.

Amazon Mexico: At a glance

You’re probably already familiar with Amazon, but if you’re wondering how Amazon Mexico works exactly, you may have a few questions, considering you’re ordering from a completely different country.

Amazon Mexico works just like any other Amazon around the globe. You can purchase everything you need from there, including travel essentials, beach gear, souvenirs, and more.

This comes in super useful if you’re visiting any Mexican destination for an extended period or you simply prefer ordering online rather than paying ridiculous prices for sunblock at tourist shops.

As for shipping, you can get your orders shipped to your hotel, home rental, or one of Amazon’s pickup hubs that are available in many Mexican tourist destinations.

Both Amazon Mexico and Amazon US ship to Mexico, so if you want a product from Amazon US that isn’t available in Amazon Mexico, you can order it from the United States (keep in mind you may have to pay an import fee, though!)

Also, if you order from the Amazon US site to Mexico, your US Prime subscription is not applicable, and you may have to pay shipping fees as well.

Is Amazon Mexico in English?

Yes, of course, Amazon Mexico is available in English. You can actually select any language.

Is Amazon Available in Mexico City?

Yes, Amazon is available in 55 cities in Mexico, and Mexico City is one of them.

Amazon Mexico vs Amazon US

Amazon Mexico and Amazon US are websites with different product catalogs, prices, and shipping options.

You’ll find the Mexican version has the same layout and check-out, although it is in Spanish and charges in Mexican pesos.

Worry not, though, you can change the language to English and your debit and credit cards from home will do the trick.

With that said, Amazon Mexico has a smaller product catalog than Amazon US, but you will still be able to find tons of products, including electronics, books, home goods, and clothing.

How to Order from Amazon US to Mexico

If you can’t find what you need on Amazon Mexico, you can order directly from Amazon US (amazon.com) and ship it to a Mexican address. Here’s what to know:

The process is simple:

  1. Go to amazon.com and log in with your existing Amazon credentials
  2. Add your Mexican address as a shipping address
  3. Search for your product — listings that can’t ship to Mexico will show a message saying so
  4. Only purchase items that show Mexico as an eligible shipping destination
  5. At checkout, import fees are usually calculated and shown upfront so there are no surprises

Key things to keep in mind:

  • Your US Prime subscription does NOT apply to Amazon US orders shipping to Mexico — you’ll pay standard shipping rates
  • Import duties and taxes may apply, especially on electronics. These are usually calculated at checkout, but not always
  • Delivery times are longer than Amazon Mexico domestic orders — typically 2–4 weeks for standard shipping
  • Not all products ship to Mexico — Amazon Alexa devices, for example, cannot be shipped to Mexico even from the US store
  • Your US Prime Video subscription does not carry over to Mexico — see the Prime Video section above for details
  • Always look for listings that include “shipping + import fees” in the total price to avoid unexpected charges at delivery

Amazon Services in Mexico

🛍️ Shopping

Amazon Mexico is a popular online retailer in more than 50 cities in Mexico. It offers great online shopping options.

You can purchase a wide selection of products through Amazon Mexico, just as you can in other parts of the world.

These include books, electronics, apparel, and other favorites like sporting goods, toys, candy, cooking ware, furniture, electronics, and even food and health supplies.

To shop through Amazon Mexico, you will need to open an account. But if you have your Amazon US account you can use the same credentials.

Once you have your account, you can browse through the products available, and add them to your cart until you’re ready for checkout.

At this point, you will be required to add payment information and a shipping address. Pick the shipping option of your choice, and you´re ready to go!

As you can see, it is the same process as in the US and other countries, although product selection and shipping time might vary for Mexico. Amazon Mexico offers several payment methods, which include credit, debit, and Amazon gift cards.

Recently, they also opened up to accepting cash for pick-up orders at Amazon delivery centers.

We’ll talk about it in more depth later on.

🎶 Music

Amazon Mexico offers Amazon Music streaming services that will allow you to access more than 100 million songs from all over the world.

You can get a 30-day free trial so you can try it out before subscribing.

You will find Mexican artists on Amazon Music like Luis Miguel, Julieta Venegas, and more, but of course, music from the US and all over the world is available as well!

📽️ Amazon Prime Video

📽️ Amazon Prime Video

You can use Amazon Prime Video to stream TV shows and movies in Mexico, but there are a few important things to know before you assume it works exactly like it does at home.

US Amazon Prime Video does not work in Mexico. If you have a US Prime subscription and travel to Mexico, most of the US content library will be blocked. Some titles are available internationally, but the majority are not. A VPN can sometimes work around this, but Amazon has become increasingly good at detecting and blocking VPN connections.

The best solution if you want to watch Amazon Prime in Mexico is to sign up for Amazon Prime Mexico separately. It has a strong content library including many of the same titles as the US version, plus a solid selection of Mexican and Latin American content.

Cost of Amazon Prime Mexico:

  • Monthly: $99 MXN (approximately $5.50 USD)
  • Annual: $899 MXN (approximately $50 USD)
  • 30-day free trial available

Important 2026 update: From June 17, 2025, Amazon Prime Video in Mexico includes advertisements. If you want an ad-free experience, you’ll need to pay for the ad-free upgrade on top of your Prime subscription.

You can stream on smartphones, tablets, smart TVs, and laptops. Content is available in English, Spanish, and other languages with subtitle options.

📖 Kindle and eBooks

Amazon Mexico has a Kindle store where you can purchase and download a great selection of electronic books in English and Spanish.

I use it all the time, especially when I’m traveling to a place like Mexico City because things here can get hectic here and it’s always great to relax with a book in hand at a café.

Amazon Mexico’s Kindle store is great if you’re interested in reading Mexican authors in their original language, but you can also find a huge selection of books in English.

You’ll have to create an Amazon Mexico account, then sign in to the Kindle store, where you can browse the online bookstore and select the ones you wish to buy.

You can pay for your purchases with debit, credit, or Amazon gift cards, which are readily available in Oxxo, 7-Eleven, and other convenience stores.

You can read your ebooks either on a Kindle device or in the Kindle app on your iPad or phone. I prefer my iPad as it’s bigger, though heavy.

4. Complete check-out with payment

When you are ready to check out, select a shipping address and payment method. Amazon Mexico accepts a variety of payment methods, including credit cards, debit cards, Amazon gift cards, and cash. (see below)

Accepted Payment Methods in Amazon Mexico

Amazon Mexico accepts a number of payment methods, which include different types of cards, cash, and some merchants even take “vales de despensa”, which are company or government-issued vouchers that can be used to purchase food and other essential items.

✅ Debit and credit cards

Visa and Mastercard debit and credit cards are accepted when checking out your items on Amazon Mexico.

Discover and American Express are accepted by some merchants only, so you’ll have to check beforehand on the product’s description.

Note for international visitors: While Visa and Mastercard are widely accepted on Amazon Mexico, some users report occasional issues with foreign-issued credit cards being declined. If your card doesn’t work, a reliable workaround is to use a Wise debit card (formerly TransferWise), which is accepted and allows you to pay in Mexican pesos at a favorable exchange rate. Alternatively, Amazon gift cards purchased at Oxxo or 7-Eleven stores in cash are a universally accepted payment method.

✅ Amazon cards

Three types of Amazon cards are accepted in Amazon Mexico: Amazon gift cards, Amazon Rewards, and rechargeable Amazon Cash (carnet). You can usually find them in convenience stores like Oxxo and 7-Eleven.

✅ Cash payment

There are multiple ways to do cash payments on Amazon Mexico

► Pay cash upon pick up.

To do this, you will choose “paga en efectivo y recoger” when you check out. You will then need to pay in cash for your order at an Amazon pickup site.

You can read more about it here.

► Pay cash in a convenience store

In this case, you select the option to pay with cash and you will be given a unique code that you will present in some specific establishments to pay for your order. You usually have 72 hours to make the payment, after which your order will be automatically canceled.

Participating establishments:

  • OXXO
  • 7-eleven
  • Savings Pharmacies
  • Circle K
  • Extra
  • Waldos
  • kiosk

You can read more about this method here.

I have never used this option, to be honest, but I heard it’s available for some items. I don’t think it’s very practical though.

Amazon delivery in Mexico

RFC and CURP: What You Need to Know for Amazon Orders in Mexico

This is something most travel blogs don’t tell you, but it’s become increasingly important from 2025.

Mexico now requires a valid RFC or CURP for all orders shipped into the country — including orders from Amazon US delivered to a Mexican address. These are Mexican government identification numbers used for customs and tax purposes.

  • RFC (Registro Federal de Contribuyentes) — Mexico’s tax ID number, used by residents and registered workers
  • CURP (Clave Única de Registro de Población) — a personal identification number assigned to all Mexican citizens and legal residents

What does this mean for travelers? If you’re visiting Mexico for a short trip, this is unlikely to affect small everyday purchases on Amazon Mexico. However, if you’re ordering from Amazon US to a Mexican address, or making larger purchases, you may be asked to provide one of these numbers. Without it, your order could be held at customs or returned.

What to do:

  • Short-term visitors: Stick to Amazon Mexico (amazon.com.mx) for purchases during your trip — domestic orders are less likely to be affected
  • Long-term visitors and expats: Register for a CURP online at gob.mx — it’s free and straightforward
  • If you plan to live in Mexico long-term, getting an RFC through the SAT website is highly recommended and makes all online shopping much smoother

Amazon Returns in Mexico

Amazon Mexico has a reasonably generous returns policy, though there are some important differences compared to Amazon US.

  • You generally have 30 days to initiate a return on eligible items
  • Returns must be started through your Amazon account under “My Orders”
  • You’ll need to print a return label and package the item properly
  • Imported items are often non-returnable — always check the product listing before purchasing, especially on electronics or items shipped from outside Mexico
  • Some items can be returned directly to an Amazon Hub location, which is the most convenient option

If you’re a traveler making a purchase for your trip, pay close attention to the return window relative to your travel dates — if something arrives after you leave, returning it becomes significantly more complicated.

Does Amazon deliver to Mexico hotels?

Absolutely! You can have your Amazon packages delivered to your hotel in Mexico. My only suggestion would be to ask your hotel if they can receive the package and let them know when it should arrive, so they can look out for it.

Tip: To change the address on Amazon, click on “deliver to”, then click on the top-left corner, then  “manage address book,”, and, finally, “add a new address” where you’ll add your hotel’s address (I would suggest asking someone who works there how to write it down exactly to avoid any delays).

The same thing applies if you’re staying at an Airbnb, especially if there’s a reception. They can store them for you until you arrive, so if you plan on shopping online a lot, I’d definitely make sure your Airbnb has a front desk.

Otherwise, you should stay at home on the day of the delivery to make sure you don’t miss it.

Amazon shipping cost to Mexico

Shipping costs to Mexico from Amazon Mexico vary depending on plenty of factors.

Free shipping is available for purchases over $599 Mexican pesos (about US $34.00), but keep in mind that this means you’ll have to wait 4-6 business days for delivery (I’ve gotten them early on many occasions, though!).

Aside from that, 3-day and 1-day delivery are also available. This cost depends on the weight of your package and other factors, but you can usually expect them to start at US $14.99 (around $249 Mexican pesos) for relatively small items (you’ll see the exact cost on checkout)

Finally, same-day shipping (in Mexico City only) is available if you need something urgently. In that case, the delivery price is a steep $129 USD. It’s not a great option, but it’s nice to have it in case you ever need something urgently!

Amazon delivery time to Mexico

Shipping delivery time to Mexico varies depending on the shipping method you choose and whether you have an Amazon Prime membership or not, and where you are shipping to.

Delivering to big cities is infinitely faster compared to any other part of Mexico.

And as I mentioned before, delivering to Mexico City, Guadalajara, and Monterrey, you even have the option of same-day delivery.

Standard (free) Shipping can take 4-6 business days, but you can also ask for your package to be delivered in three days, one day, and even on the same day for select products, at a cost of course.

Amazon Mexico Delivery for Prime Members

If you are an Amazon Prime member and that applies to the product you purchase, you can have free expedited shipping.

However, if you are a Prime Member of Amazon US, this is not transferable to your Amazon Mexico account, and you will need to pay for a new subscription.

Tips for Using Amazon in Mexico

By this point, you can probably guess that shopping through Amazon Mexico is very similar to doing it at home.

Most of the time, it is, but there are a few things to have in mind so that your experience runs as smoothly as possible.

✔️ When ordering items from the US and other countries to be delivered to Mexico, you may be responsible for paying import duties and taxes upon your item’s arrival in Mexico.

In that case, they will be billed to you by the shipping company directly (Amazon has nothing to do with this matter).

✔️ Sometimes, a product may be cheaper if you purchase it from Amazon US compared to Amazon Mexico, but if you take into account the import tax, it may wind up being about the same price or even more.

Make sure to calculate this before making a decision on which website to purchase your products.

✔️ Items purchased from countries other than Mexico may be subject to customs clearance when they arrive in Mexico.

This process can take several days, so it’s important to calculate this into your shipping time estimate.

This does not always happen, especially on low-cost items that are not electronics.

✔️ Consider using a credit card with no foreign transaction fees to avoid paying extra fees when shopping on Amazon Mexico.

✔️ Make sure to read the return policy before making a purchase. Amazon Mexico has a generous return policy, but it is important to read and understand the terms and conditions to avoid any surprises.

Amazon Alternatives in Mexico

Mexico has some alternatives to Amazon that you may want to take a look at.

👉 Mercado Libre

Mercado Libre is one of the most popular retailers in Latin America and I usually look there before Amazon because it has lots of products and very fast delivery.

I find them very reliable and a wonderful alternative to Amazon. Deliveries are especially fast to Mexico because most of the products are stored within the city (I once ordered something at 6 AM and received it in the afternoon that same day!).

👉 Linio

Linio sells just about everything, like Amazon Mexico and Mercado Libre, with pretty quick delivery and constant sales. I don’t have personal experience with them but have heard great things from friends and family.

👉 Corner Shop (Mexico City only)

This is not exactly like Amazon or Mercado Libre, but I love using them whenever I need something urgently.

Corner Shop is an app that caters to plenty of shops all over Mexico City and can get anything you may need to be delivered to your door in as little as one hour.

I use them mostly for grocery shopping, but they can also deliver electronics, clothes, home goods, pet goods, alcohol, and plenty more!

Granted, you do need to pay a bit extra for delivery, but it’s a great way to get things you may need last minute!

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Can I watch Amazon Prime US in Mexico? No. US Amazon Prime Video content is largely blocked in Mexico due to regional licensing restrictions. Some titles are available internationally, but most of the US library will not be accessible. A VPN can sometimes work but Amazon actively detects and blocks many VPN connections. The best solution is to sign up for Amazon Prime Mexico separately, which costs around $99 MXN per month and has a strong content library of its own. Note that from June 2025, Prime Video in Mexico includes ads unless you pay for the ad-free tier.

Do I need an RFC or CURP to order on Amazon Mexico? For domestic Amazon Mexico purchases, you generally don’t need one for small everyday items. However, since 2025 Mexico requires an RFC or CURP for international orders shipped into the country from Amazon US. Long-term visitors and expats should register for a CURP at gob.mx — it’s free. If you’re just visiting for a short trip and shopping on Amazon Mexico, you’re unlikely to encounter this issue for typical travel purchases.

What is the return policy on Amazon Mexico? Amazon Mexico offers a 30-day return window on most eligible items. Returns must be initiated through your account, and you’ll need to print a return label. Imported items and certain electronics are often marked as non-returnable — always check the product listing before buying. If you’re a traveler, keep your return window in mind relative to your departure date.

Does Amazon Mexico accept foreign credit cards? Generally yes — Visa and Mastercard from foreign banks are accepted. However, some users report occasional declines with international cards. If yours doesn’t work, use a Wise debit card or purchase an Amazon gift card at an Oxxo or 7-Eleven store.

What cities in Mexico have Amazon Prime fast shipping? As of 2025, Amazon Prime Mexico offers free 1-day shipping in over 80 cities, including Mexico City, Guadalajara, Monterrey, Querétaro, Cancun, and Playa del Carmen. Same-day delivery is available in select major cities. Standard free shipping for non-Prime members takes 4–6 business days.

Amazon Mexico: Final Thoughts

Amazon Mexico is a great way to get anything you may need for your trip in Mexico or if you want to move there.

With that in mind, make sure you also check other options that may be faster. While Amazon Mexico works great in Mexico, it’s always a good idea to check other delivery options for you, especially if you’re staying long-term.
